Application 2

             Application Example

  • Control of 8 Zones of Water Based Under-floor Heating and 1 Hot Water Cylinder
  • Central control from a Master Keypad
  • Remote Control over the Internet and by Text Message

Application Outline

This document provides information on the equipment required to control 8 zones of under-floor heating and the control of a hot water cylinder using our wiring centre and thermostats. Central control is provided by our Touch Screen keypad.

Required Equipment

1 x UH1
8 x PRT-N
1 x PRT/HW-N
1 x Heatmiser TouchPad
1 x Heatmiser Netmonitor +

Wiring Centre (UH1)

Our UH1 provides outputs for up to 8 zones plus 1 zone for the HW cylinder.   The UH1 box is 290mm x 220mm x 70mm  (Length, Height, Depth) and should be installed next to the manifold so wiring to the zone actuators is reduced as much as possible.

Room Thermostat

We suggest a programmable thermostat in each of the rooms so that you are able to set different temperature levels according to the room and its use. There are a number of programmable thermostats available, depending on your requirement.

Air Temperature Control: If you are looking to control the room by air temperature, the PRT-N is the model to select. This model allows you to program 4 temperature levels for the weekday and 4 different temperature levels at the weekend.

Air/Floor Combination Model: This model is supplied with a remote floor sensor as well as the sensor within the thermostat. Two modes are available, selectable in software (Mode 1 = Remote floor sensor only, Mode 2 = Air Sensor and Floor limiting sensor) This model should be selected for bathrooms or when the thermostat cannot be installed in the room being controlled.

All thermostats are 85mm x 98mm x 13mm (Length, Height, Depth, when installed) A single gang back box is required with a depth of 25mm or higher.

Hot Water Thermostat The PRT/HW-N is a two zone controller, giving timed control of the hot water cylinder whilst also providing temperature control for a heating zone.  The thermostat dimension is 85mm x 98mm x 13mm (when installed) A single gang back box is required with a depth of 25mm or higher.

Heatmiser TouchPad

This model features a touch screen display, 60x79mm (Height x Depth)
It allows central control of up to 32 Heatmiser 12v thermostats.

Size: 120mm x 125mm x 18mm (Length x Height x Depth)
Fitting: It is installed onto a single gang socket box of 25mm depth

System Wiring Detail

The UH1 is our central wiring switch box used in conjunction with our 12v network thermostats discussed above.

Thermostat Connection… A Belden 9538 (4 pair, twisted screened cable) or equivalent cable is required between the UH1 and each of the thermostats installed. This cable takes care of a) thermostat power b)switching   c)communications (if used)    Note: CAT5 FTP can be used providing it is screened.

TouchPad Connection…  A Belden 8451 (Twin screened cable) or equivalent cable is run from the UH1 to the TouchPad.  This cable takes care of a) TouchPad power b) communications   Note: CAT5FTP is not recommended for cable runs over 30 meters.

Netmonitor Connection ...  A Belden 8451 (Twin screened cable) or equivalent cable is run from the TouchPad to the Netmonitor. The Netmonitor is supplied with its own power supply and patch cable to connect to your router.

Actuators… The UH1 has 8 zone outputs which directly control the zone actuators. These outputs are rated at 230v AC, so appropriate actuators should be installed.

Boiler Output…  The Boiler output is volt free and should be wired in standard 1.5mm Twin + Earth

Underfloor Heating Valve and Pump… These outputs are 230v AC and should be wired in standard 1.5mm Twin + Earth

Hot Water Cylinder Output… The hot water cylinder output is 230v AC and should be wired in standard 1.5mm Twin + Earth

Hot Water Cylinder Thermostat Connection… The hot water thermostat connection is a make/break connection; making when the thermostat is below temperature Standard 1.5mm Twin + Earth cable should be used.

System Benefits

  • Central wiring from the UH1, simplifying installation.
  • Programmable thermostats offering greater control of your system.
  • Central control from the Heatmiser TouchPad
