Upgrading your Existing Thermostat and selecting the Terminal Output
1. Firstly, check that you have at least three wires (excluding the earth) behind your existing stat. If you have, the PRT is compatible.

2. Our changeover terminal option is for those controlling a valve that needs power to open and power to close. If you are simply controlling a boiler, just select the standard model.

Product Questions

  1. Can it control a Electic Panel Wall heater?

Posted by T Medhurst on 15th Aug 2010

Q - I have a number of Electric Wall heaters that are all lacking a Thermostat. Can I use this to turn on / off the supply and thus regulate the room temp. The issue is the 3A max. output as this will limit the maximum Wattage of heater (to What exactly - Ohms law??).

A - The PRT will be able to control your heaters but as you've said you are limited to 3Amps max, if you require a thermostat that can handle a bigger load you would need to use the PRT-E.

  2. Do I need an Earth connection for a PRT standard terminal.

Posted by Igor on 13th Aug 2010

Q - My current thermostat cable has 4 cores. I want to use Live, Neutral, Control Live in, Control Live out for my PRT connections, which would use the 4 wires. Do I need a 5th wire for Earth? Can I use my existing 4 core or do I need a 5 core?

A - We would recommend using an earth wire if this is possible.

  3. Ferroli compatible

Posted by Mark on 22nd Jun 2010

Q: Do these work with a Ferroli F30B combi boiler please?

A: Our thermosats do not intelligently communicate with the boiler but give a switch line back therefore compatiblity shouldn't be an issue.

  4. Standard or Changeover

Posted by Tim on 25th Mar 2010

Q: I am replacing a dial thermostat that has 3 wires. What terminal option should I select ?

A: You should select the standard terminal.

  5. Backlight

Posted by Tom on 15th Oct 2009

Q:Is the blue backlight permanently on or does it only come on with a button press? Is this configurable?

A: No: The backlight is only on for around 30s from the last key press

  6. Power failure

Posted by Unknown on 13th Oct 2009

Q:Does the PRT retain its programmed functions if a power failure occurs?

A: Yes, the flash memory retains the programmed settings.

  7. Compatibility

Posted by Ian on 17th Aug 2009

Q: Is this controller compatible with a Potterton boiler? The boiler is currently running off an inbuilt mechanical clock but i would like to add a controller for ease of use.

A: The Heatmiser PRT will work fine, but you need to check the wiring requirements. Our PRT requires at least 3 wires, excluding earth.

  8. 7 day feature

Posted by Mark on 11th Aug 2009

Q: How do i get the 7 day programming feature on the PRT

A: You need to go into the setup feature menu, go to feature 12 and set to 01. You may watch our demo here for a walk through http://www.heatmiser.co.uk/heatmiser_demos.htm
